Marco was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He and his family migrated to the United States when he was 15 years old. He attended the San Francisco Music Conservatory while he attended high school (Westmoor, Daily City), and he was accepted to College V (now Porter College) in 1971 as a Biology & Chemistry double major. He took some years off to travel and read, and returned to UCSC in 1979. He created an independent major in American Musical Theater Studies, and he finished his BA in 1982.

After graduating from UCSC, he moved to New York City, where he worked in theater for a number of years, mostly producing, directing and designing. He entered Columbia University's School of the Arts in Film Direction in 1991, and in 1996 he earned his MFA degree with honors on the major and on his thesis film (THE PISSING RAIN, 1994, nominated for a Student Oscar in Animation in 1995).

In 1997 he moved back to Watsonville, CA, where he now resides, and he began teaching at Porter College in the Fall of 2000, where he has been ever since.

His life's passions are music, film, reading, theater and cooking. He is also immensely interested in art and science, for what's not to love about them, right?
